About
Edward Hyde was educated at King’s School Rochester where he was a music scholar. He began his musical education as a chorister at Rochester Cathedral. It was whilst a chorister at Rochester Cathedral that Edward won the prestigious title of BBC Young Chorister of The Year.

As a treble, Edward recorded solos and sung live for BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, as well as singing for BBC television. Performances with the BBC Concert Orchestra included the iconic “Friday Night Is Music Night” as well as recording with The BBC Young Musician of The Year - Sheku Kanneh-Mason and The Bach Choir. Edward has also given solo performances at the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall.

Edward made his debut performance at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2017 for their production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte conducted by Julia Jones including worldwide live broadcast to 31 countries and received outstanding reviews. Other productions for The Royal Opera include - Tosca with Daniel Ettinger and Placido Domingo conducting, Macbeth with Sir Antonio Pappano conducting and the world premiere of a Royal Opera House commissioned opera Mamzer Bastard by Nana Zimmer and conducted by Jessica Cottis

Edward recorded for Decca Classics as Treble soloist for a new Requiem by composer Rebecca Dale, The Materna Requiem and debuted this piece with Welsh National Opera in September 2018.

Edward studied trombone at the Junior Royal Academy of Music under Dave Whitson and was successful in gaining a place in the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain for four consecutive years, followed by four more years with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He was also selected to be one of the student representatives on their artistic development team. In 2021 he was selected by NYO to perform a solo with the orchestra at Saffron Hall, and in his final year with NYO he held the position of principal bass trombone. He has performed at the Proms on multiple occasions as well as working on numerous varied and diverse projects with Nitin Sawnhey, Danny Elfmann and Gustavo Dudamel

In 2022 Edward commenced his studies at the Royal College of Music where he is a Colin Lawson Scholar. He has undertaken Trombone Masterclasses with Kriss Garfitt, Jonas Bylund and Abbie Connant as well as playing with 'The Philarmonia Orchestra' and 'Birmingham Royal Ballet Orchestra' in side by side programmes following auditions. He has performed as principal trombone with the RCM Philharmonic, Symphony and Opera Orchestras; and studies Trombone with Lindsay Shilling, Byron Fulcher and Rupert Whitehead.​

Ed is a dedicated music teacher offering tuition in brass instruments and piano, with lessons tailored to each student’s needs, abilities, and goals. His teaching blends enjoyment with progress, ensuring every student grows in both skill and confidence.
Since achieving his ARSM and DipABRSM (both with distinction), Ed has taught across London, Kent, and online, working with students of all ages. He has collaborated and worked with leading organisations including the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, and Kent Music.
Ed holds an enhanced DBS check, Child Safeguarding Level 3 certification, and is a fully qualified child chaperone.
